The Project Portfolio Office (PPO) forms the foundation of any project delivery organism. And just like any living organism, any defects in its creation will impair its potential effectiveness to develop and manage the structures required as a key interface between the board and the operations of an organisation.
In essence, the PPO consists of two main parts:
- “doing things right” – the controlled delivery of projects and programs, including the creation and governance of structures needed to deliver them
- “doing the right things” – the effective management of the portfolio and interfaces into supply and demand chain management, financial controlling, risk, legal and compliance, project community development, and the IT strategy
Think of these two parts as the two halves of the brain. We are all born with the capacity for both left and right side brain managed activity, but all of us naturally develop key aspects of our cognition by evolving each half of the brain as needed.
The PPO is the same. The key is to create and continually develop an organism that is not only fit for purpose at inception, but continues to remain relevant and capable to support the organisation’s changing strategic goals by evolving as needed.
Menghrani GmbH’s strength is not only in understanding the anatomy of the PPO, but taking a holistic approach in defining how the organism needs to develop. The result is delivered value to the organisation through controlled project and program delivery, accompanied by fully integrated supporting structures and interfaces.
Once in place, we can ensure the PPO’s long-term effectiveness by developing your in-house team to manage it, or provide an on-site team which can work in parallel with the creation of the in-house team.
